We all need self-care in our lives. We really need to take care of the most important person in our life - and that person is you. You are the most important. So, what does self-care look like? Read on to find out what it is and how you can start incorporating self-care in your life today.
Here are some of my personal favourite self-care tips that I love to use!
1. Schedule in Time for Yourself!
Book it in your calendar/agenda, block the space off and ensure that you do something for you that relaxes you. Go grab your phone or agenda right now and create that time for yourself. Pencil it in as if it were a date with your partner or a night out with your friends. I find I struggle with this sometimes as I tend to overbook myself with work, friends, traveling, etc. So now, whenever I get asked about making plans or doing something on the day I have scheduled myself in for my self-care time, I say I'm sorry, but I'm busy, so let's do another day! Try this out and see how it works for you.
2. Find What Helps You Feel Your Best
So, what does feeling your best look like to you? What's happening when you feel your best? Is it when you're exercising, walking outdoors, being with your animals, seeing friends and family, reading a good book with a warm tea? Visualize yourself being your happiest and write down what's happening in that picture you created. Now, go and be that person and do what you love!
3. Meditation
Meditation, yoga or focusing on your breath are all such great ways at calming your mind, body and soul. If you're new to meditation, I find that guided meditations are a really great start! There's an app I used to get started called Headspace, and I also looked up various podcasts on meditations, too. It's certainly an interesting experience to sit with yourself and your breath, but honestly, it feels pretty darn good after!
4. Limit the Negative Self-Talk!
Raise your self-esteem, self-love and self-worth by changing the way you speak about yourself. How would you talk about your best friend or someone you love completely? Now, talk about yourself that way! Tell yourself in the mirror that you love yourself every day and even stick some notes around your home that encourage you to be kind with some motivational mantras.
5. Exercise & Nutritious Food
Fuel your body well so that you feel awesome, energized and cared for. Treat your body with kindness and give it the nutrients it needs and the movement it desires!
